Inspired Jazz: Our Bio

"INSPIRED JAZZ" - : Derek & Sharon Hudson

Born in LaGrange, Georgia, saxophonist Derek Hudson is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and Rollins College.  His playing influences include Grover Washington Jr. and Kirk Whalum.  Sensing the call to ministry through the medium of smooth jazz, Derek resigned his Presidential commission as a naval officer.  When he heard Sharon sing for the first time, Derek experienced “audio visions” knew that he would accompany her in song.

A native of Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of Florida A&M University, Sharon Hudson ministers in prophetic song.  Her singing style has been compared to those of Cece Winans and Yolanda Adams, yet hers is a truly unique sound.  Singing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (see Colossians 3:16) is one of Sharon’s greatest enjoyments. Sharon has a heart that desires to bless others with the spontaneous “Song of the Lord”.

Derek and Sharon are founders of their own independent recording label, Inspired Jazz Publishing. In addition to the brand new single "Due Season" they have produced and recorded 19 other original arrangements and recorded two CD’s “SelahThink about It” and “A Christmas Celebration”.
